Train to Alingsås

Did you know that Alingsås is one of the oldest cities in the region? In fact, Alingsås received its city rights back in 1619 by Gustav II Adolf. It also means that there are very old, historic sights nearby. A nice remain that you must visit when you are in Alingsås is Gräfsnäs castle ruin, which was built in the 1550s.

For those interested in trains, you may be excited to find out that there is a 12 km long narrow-gauge railway between Gräfsnäs and Lake Anten. The railway is part of the Västgöta railway, which was inaugurated in 1900. Anten-Gräfsnäs railway travels in period wagons while Lake Anten beautifully follow you outside the window. During the turn of the 30-tonne locomotive on the turnpad in Gräfsnäs, you can enjoy yourself with a coffee at the railway café or an ice cream in the kiosk.
